GERRY BERMAN
Attorney Berman transitioned into law late in life, after attending Massachusetts School of Law part-time, graduating and being admitted to the bar in 1996. Previously, Gerry graduated from Swarthmore College with a B.S. in mechanical engineering with a strong minor in Fine Arts, having attended the University of Pennsylvania half time his junior year in Penn’s Basic Architecture program. Following Swarthmore, Gerry attended the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, graduating with an MBA. During his tenure at Chicago, Gerry tutored college level math, was a research assistant in finance, and a teaching assistant in Business Policy to two different faculty, including a former dean of the business school. Gerry was also a technical analyst for an Illinois Institute of Technology management consulting firm, writing “NASA Tech Briefs” analyzing innovations from the space program.
Despite his acceptance into Chicago’s PhD program, Gerry returned home to Boston and joined the family construction business. Later he founded one of the early generation energy management companies followed by a foray into residential development, design, and construction. Still later Gerry provided management consulting services and legal assistance to a number of mostly construction and real estate related companies throughout the U.S.
Residing in Carlisle, Massachusetts, Gerry was an active member of the School Committee for 8 years, two as chair. Toward the end of his tenure he promoted the expansion, redesign and construction of Carlisle’s school facilities, winning town meeting approval, after which he stayed connected as a member of the School Building Committee all the way through completion.
Gerry is the proud father of a son and daughter, each who has reached the pinnacle in their chosen profession: his daughter as the founding partner of a successful Boston based consulting firm; his son as a news and politics anchor for a national cable network.
